For this past few days, I scrubbed the walls and floors of various rooms in the house, everyday swept the dry leaves, threw out the garbage, pushed sofas and furniture out of the way to sweep dirt found underneath, carried heavy books and magazines out of the room to arrange them somewhere else, arranged stocked items in the bodega, etc. This morning, I did a ton of laundry, which piled up over the week, scrubbed the bedroom floors again to get rid of the dust mites, changed bed and sofa sheets, and bathed the dogs.
That is not inclusive of other tasks such as grocery shopping, orders from my dad, and other online related tasks I have to finish.
Don’t get me started on the heat! While working I felt the heat and perspiration trickling down my body but I pushed through with the manual labor to check items off the list and hopefully finish early. With the sauna heat of the weather and my aching muscles pushing through its limits, who the heck needs gym.
This is one of those times I thank whoever made the concept of air-conditioned malls. Rockwell, thank goodness you are so near!
In a sense, I am thankful for the tasks I had to do. I know how to do household chores even if I detest doing them most of the time because I lack time to do most of the things that I want. But I do get to understand the value of relaxation and of quiet time. I value water and the cool breeze. I adore the existence of beaches and pools.
Most of all, I respect the power of the Sun, with its infinite power and glory to bring life and energy to the Earth. From its heat wrath, we now know the value of sunblock and the importance of taking care of our skin. From the intense heat, we are aware of a hole in our ozone layer. From its light, we are made safe from darkness for most of our waking life.
Indeed, we are lucky for the heat.
So to Summer, even if you bring discomfort to us, you are the embodiment of clear skies, happy moods and infinite sunshine. I am grateful for your existence. *lifts a glass* Cheers!
