Semana Santa 2010

Holy Week is a sacred tradition within our family. We may have no strict religious rules against noise, rowdy activities or fasting but our family has specific rituals that every member follows to the tee.

Starting on Maundy Thursday, there will be no eating of meat. Fish, fruits and vegetables take over every meal. My dad will then start to rent videos especially with anything related to bible stories or the story of Jesus. He points out that it is only once a year when the world needs to stop on their normal activities and reminded of the sufferings of the Son of God for
mankind.

Good Friday will roll by with everyone in the area awaiting twilight for the start of the funeral procession. Yes, funeral procession of Christ. This is the highlight of our barangay’s holy week tradition. A number of life-sized puon’s are paraded depicting the stations of the cross plus additional highlights portraying the death of Christ. Children are especially excited about this since this puon’s so beautiful well-made, each puon’s karosa are exquisitely decorated with flowers and lights it is impossible not to watch as they pas by.

Once in a while you would hear a child cry from fear of seeing Jesus suffering or from seeing a long parade of black veiled people praying the rosary with low voices. I heard some children fear that one of the puon might come alive and take them someplace far away. The imagination of children. :)

I took some pictures of the passing puons. Unfortunately, I don’t have the knack of shooting moving objects especially at night time. Oh well, I tried. XD

Here are some shots.

It’s currently Black Saturday. Me and my family are currently groups in the living room. My sister and dad are watching an action packed DVD while I’m blogging right now. Holy Week is also a time for the family to get together. My dad has strictly embedded on us to take this time to not go anywhere until tomorrow and just stay in the house… to be together as a family. :)

Tomorrow will be Easter. A time of Spring, a time of New Beginnings, a time of Rebirth.

One day to go towards Celebration. :D
