Selecting the Right Location

After an individual gets into his choice of job or career, next is his careful selection of location. It is a common thing to hear of workers not staying long in their due to hard access to it everyday. It could be their commuting time is not worth the distance to and from work, or everyday is a stressful day to reach their office on time. It could be their fare cuts a lot out of their living allowance or their route is potentially dangerous at specific times of the day.

A great example I could give for this chapter is a Japanese Drama titled “Bambino”. It is an eleven one-hour series about a boy named Ban Shogo, who wanted to be the greatest Italian chef. He is an enthusiastic, cocky college student working part-time in a Japanese province as an Italian apprentice to a professional chef. He was sent to Tokyo by his boss to help out in his boss” best friend”s 5-star Italian restaurant .

There, he learned that he has much to learn if he is ever to reach his goal. In order to focus on his dream, he dropped out from school to work full-time in the city restaurant. He has to transfer in the city to be near the working place. This caused a strife between him and his fiancee and later on, his fiancee left him but she wished him well for his decision. His new boss made him work in different areas of the restaurant, from being the garbage boy, dishwasher, dolce assistant, waiter and then as the pasta chef.

He worked his way from bottom up, amidst criticism from fellow workers because he has a tendency to be overly sure of himself. By the end of the series, after working for the Italian restaurant for more than two (2) years and earning the friendship and respect of his colleagues, he realized he couldn’t stay there for long if he is to reach his dream. He researched and prepared all papers needed to be an assistant for a restaurant in Italy. With small knowledge in Italian, he left the comfort of his homeland and his current position as a pasta chef to start all over again in a new country and culture to reach his goal, to be a bona-fide Italian chef.

You have to take into consideration the location you are in. Is your work location accessible? Does it have all your necessary materials needed for your job? Would it provide you with all necessary training and knowledge you need to excel? Would you get along with your colleagues? Are you willing to sacrifice for the dream? And so on and so forth. You need to evaluate everything yourself and assess what will work out for you.
