For someone who is into Asian food (especially Japanese), this information forwarded by my friend gave me goosebumps. Please read through to be aware of how some of the chopsticks are made and how dangerous they can be to us. FYI.

Brief Introduction on production of Disposable Chopsticks

  1. Cut from bamboo trees.
  2. Prodcution in Central Vietnam.
  3. Bleached using sulphur and hydrogen peroxide (not disinfected).
  4. Drying process.
  5. Packing, ready to be exported in Taiwan, Japan …
  6. Shipping ready to be sent in Taiwan. It takes 1 month from ex-factory to Taiwan. Meantime, the chopstick is exposed to rat and cockroach.
  7. Wrapping process (without any disinfection). Upon arrival in Taiwan, these chopstics are sent to a small factory to be wrapped without any disinfectant process before sending to restaurants.
  8. Chopsticks go directly to customers mouth.

More Information….

  1. There are thousand and million of monkey faces inside these chopsticks. These ‘imprimts’ or images are actually left-over chemicals that will stay there until you use them.
  2. Using these disposable, not disinfected chopsticks could lead to difficulty in breathing, vomit, diarhhea, loss of calcium and others.
  3. By continuing using chopsticks, 29 million of trees are being cut every year.

Word of Advise….

Better bring your own chopsticks.
