I am not fond of rain for the longest time. For me, its gloomy, sad, a hassle to a lot of people. Not to mention, it gives people tendency to be sleepy, lazy and extremely hungry. LOL. At least, that’s how I feel often on a rainy day. It just disrupts my groove.
Interestingly though, I found information on different perspective on rain based on different cultures, as stated below:
- In the largely temperate Europe, rain metaphorically has a sad and negative connotation — reflected in children’s rhymes like Rain Rain Go Away — in contrast to the bright and happy sun.
- In dry places, such as parts of Africa, Australia, India, and the Middle East, rain is greeted with euphoria.
- Many people find the scent during and immediately after rain especially pleasant or distinctive. The source of this scent is petrichor, an oil produced by plants, then absorbed by rocks and soil, and later released into the air during rainfall.
- Light or heavy rain is sometimes seen as romantic.
Whatever the case may be, I still find it hard to like it thoroughly. Sure as a kid, I did not appreciate it especially when classes get suspended. Still, it impedes freedom. I was not allowed to go out, it was the usual cause of blackouts in our area (which could last for hours), I wasn’t able to play with my dog outside… etc. Now, it’s worse, since I am a working commuter, and floods and puddles surely can ruin a day.
Oh well… I’m particularly procastinating now. My mind isn’t working and my fingers are typing on their own. I am feeling darn well cold and lazy. >___>
