Self-expression… for what you do
NOTE: This is the continuation of a couple of articles I have posted here in this blog, regarding work and its deeper meaning to man. I’ve been in a psychological mood. HEHE. I hope some of these insights I made from various articles I’ve read helps you in some way. ^_^ If you want to read the previous articles, click on them below:
I tend to think that there are two kinds of work, the routine-type and the creative-type. There are works so redundant and routine in nature that expression or individuality is almost absent, and there are the types strongly associated with expression that popularity for one skill can be easily remembered to one person. The degree to which a man will live his mark in his work will rely largely on the significance of his ideas, qualities expressed, determination and his power of insight.
As I can see it, there are too many employers already working in the same industry. With business sprouting from different parts of the world, competition tends to rise and the necessity of employers can be easily imagined. With these employers working on the same protocol, routine and expectations, dealing with the same standards with each season that passes by, each new generation is given the chance of adding a fresh or new incentive, which will be his contribution or ‘mark’ to history and civilization.
In a sense, work is the result of man’s output in promoting his most distinctive nature. Work’s relation to character is seen in the archives of different races, and in the unmistakable stamp which the work of each race bears. Man used to work through instinct, as when caveman would attempt techniques for better hunt and building structures. Then man worked for intellectual evolution, to uplift the quality of his life and that of his society. Each race had been given its free reign to explore new ways of working. Come to think of it, each race is known for a particular expertise and each has followed certain guidelines and kept within general limits in doing its work. People living in the West have different work ethics from those in the East. There are differences in temper, organization, structure, etc. Each race garnered distinction because of these. And thus, on a greater scale, the relation between work and expression is disclosed.
Work is practically inclusive of every force and kind of life sine every worker puts into it all that is most distinctive in him. His moral quality contributes sincerity, veracity, solid beliefs; his intellectual quality seen in organization, order, grasp of thought; and this creative aspiration is seen in symmetry proportion, beauty of construction and detail; his spiritual quality revealed through depth of insight and scope of relationships. When a man puts himself into this work, 100% pours his dedication and passion into it, he will do whatever it takes to accomplish it, to not be affected by the challenge coming his way, and he maintains order and balance in himself, he will unconsciously evolve into something more. Success from challenging work is a key to a man’s life because it is the product of everything he tried to express and accomplish through what he learned.
For this reason, no man can live in any real sense without giving himself a chance to express himself through activity. Action in some field is the final stage of development. To stop work, to stop thinking, feeling, evolving, is to miss the chance of success. An artist cannot sit still when he suddenly avails of a vision. He cannot wait for those visions to come out on its own. He needs to act or else feel a certain loss for not taking part to the vision’s birth.
To comprehend what life means, on must act as well as think and feel. Action is the process of revelation. It is also the process to feel content and satisfied by one’s individuality and strength. Expression through work is man’s success. He may not feel the changes while working but fruits of success would be realized at the end, when he sees the markings of life he made.
