My mind (and heart) reels over an unexpected turn of romantic issues.
Being a full-pledge anime enthusiast, I had my exposure to all type of anime genre, including yaoi (men to men relationstip).
Though the issue is still considered taboo in some parts of the society, it did not stop me from watching such series. Initially, it was the bishies (handsome men), the curiosity, and the *cough cough* interest to see men in ‘action’, which lured me to the genre. Later on did it sink to me, that gay relationships aren’t something to be frowned upon.
As I grew more exposed to the genre, I loved the gay characters as much as I loved previous ‘straight’ ones. I came to expect and get excited to see what will happen next. I felt intensity of feelings between the protagoninsts. I cheered for their relationship. I cheered for their happiness. I cried for their tribulations, etc.
And constantly, the voice inside my head tells me… There’s nothing wrong with gay love. There’s nothing wrong with it because it is REAL as any other kind of love. It just so happened that they were born the same gender but they have emotions as any other people in the society.
It’s quite bad that some society consider gay love as something quite ‘quirky’ and ‘weird’ and if worse comes to worse, disgusting. Many people consider the issue in black and white. Some think that if you are gay, you are bound to fall in love with any man. Isn’t that preposterous!? If a man falls for another man, it is not the gender issues behind the attraction. I believe rather, it is something the other person has done which attracted the admiration of the other.
Can’t they accept that people become gay because that is what they want and they are like any other people? Can’t they accept that gay people can also truly love someone?
What brought about this entry? Oh well, I just happened to go in a ‘moe’ rampage over a series I recently finished. It’s titled Kyou Kara Maoh (God Save Our King!).
It’s a story of Yuuri, a normal high school boy, who got literally flushed down a toilet to another world. He found out later he is the long awaited Demon King of that world (called Shin Makoku) and accidentally got himself a fiancee, who happened to be one of his official ‘male’ bodyguards. ^^
Wolfram, the fiancee, can be categorized as an androgynous bishie. With his blond hair, green eyes and slim physique, put him into a dress and you get yourself a pretty lady. ^^ Unfortunately though, he has a sharp tounge, and an immature and unpredictable attitude.
Wolfram and Yuuri were initially very much against the idea. Yuuri vocally expresses his hesitancy over the match but he is shown not doing much to change the issue. He is often shown going along with the flow of events.
Wolfram, on the other hand, will be seen having romantic inclinations for Yuuri as the series progress. The constant rampage of jealousy, his constant assertiveness to be always beside Yuuri, his subtle hints of plans of their future together, him proudly stating that he is the King’s fiancee to anyone within earshot etc. XDDD I’m loving this brat. XD
Yuuri is shown to not be aware of Wolfram’s growing affections. Yet, they are constantly seen protecting each other at the best of their abilities. There is no concrete evidence of Yuuri having romantic inclinations towards Wolfram, but anyone with eyesight would see a funny but perfect match, if biasedness would be removed on them being both men.
I really love these characters. I see something precious between them as I see any other normal couple.
I am glad that I am exposed to this genre. It helped me open my eyes to facts of ‘reality’. I learned to accept facts and I hope these beliefs will reach others as well. ^_^
Of course, being an anime fan, I get to be in fangirl mode whenever a fanart or an image from an artbook of a fave anime reaches me, and I faint over the ‘meaning’ of images. XDDD
Check out what Licorne shared to me recently. Kyou Kara Maoh images! Of course, this is Yuuri and Wolfram! Sugoooooi!
