Fashionista Moi?!

I can’t believe I was considered as the ‘Fashionista in the Office 2007′ in our office’s last Christmas Party, which I wasn’t able to attend because I was really sick. I was surprised when my fellow web-designer handed me this small red envelope, similar to those the Chinese use to put money in to give to relatives, and it got money in it! Talk about good luck! ^^

Still, it still boggles me on how they considered me as the best dressed person in the office. I never considred myself as ‘fashionista’ (term used to depict for someone fashinable). I don’t have signature clothes, I don’t wear make-up, I don’t even put on much accessories, my clothes are clothing lines I ‘happened’ to stumble upon (mostly in ukay ukay’s (bargain places) ), which I liked and ended up in an unplanned purchase. Yes, that is how I purchase my wardrobe items, often unplanned shopping. I don’t even consider what is the current trend. As long as I like the design, the combination of design and I find myself COMFORTABLE in it, then it’s the piece for me. My way of selecting outfits is pretty simple: cheap, simple, comfortable and easy to wash. ^^

Amusingly, the said award somehow brought into limelight the possibility that I MAY have a flair for fashion. My tastes may not be the current trend, but I might have a certain TASTE that people like.

One thing I happen to notice in my wardrobe (upon suddenly giving my closet a good inspection) is mostly my blouses are the loose, airy types. I’m not much into simple solid-colored tight fitting tees. My tops have prints. If they don’t have prints they have a certain texture or cloth design (in contexts of frills and such) that removes its ’solid-colored monotonous look’. My pants are mostly jeans in black and blue and a few loose black, cream or flesh-colored slacks and pants (not baggy though). My shoe collection is pretty simple. I have black heels for those business meetings, sandals for extreme walking, sneakers and rubber shoes for extreme activities and my favorites are my doll shoes. They are just so comfortable!

Then I realized that it’s possible my combinations of the chic, simple and classic styles is one thing that made me develop a certain attractive taste for my fashion sense. As I said earlier, I don’t keep track of the current trend. As long as I see something I like and I’m comfortable in it, then that it is for me. With a careful selection of accessories, like simple pearl earrings and silver bracelets can jive up any ensemble.

Come to think of it though, I happen to notice that the current trend (not I take notice! HAHA) consists of loose, airy, printed tops and tight pants. Footwear trends comes in sandals or slipper types that could be worn anywhere. Come to think of it I notice that the current trend seems to be similar to the fashion back in the 50s. When I did a little research on the subject, I was right!

Below is an excerpt from an article found in about.com regarding Fashion in 2008:

First things first: the spring summer fashion for 2008 will contain a lot of interesting models that clearly reminds us of the 50s. Baggy dresses below the knee for day wear or vaporous dresses for evening that will make the fashion in 2008. The trousers will be in fashion as well, and mini trousers may be worn as well. Capri trousers are still in style and may be worn with extra large sweaters. However, there is a trend that will mix styles, so sporty style will mix with the chic and there will be an ethno mix, which will result in some interesting combinations. The urban style will thus be a functional wardrobe with sporty details. This highly unlikely combination that comes as a surprise is like a breathe of fresh air.

The jewels may be made of plastic or more natural materials such as wood or even clay. These can be ethno influenced and create a great effect on the entire apparel, making the body look small and giving an interesting perspective.
