This ad was to promote Wax, an underwear brand. This underwear claims to be for those who push the limit – in any aspect. Physically or emotionally scraped, athletic or otherwise, breaking new grounds and conquering the unconquerable. At least this is what they strategize.
So initially, I thought of a very powerful image, a manly image actually. I don’t conclude that everything they sell is for men… I am not really sure. But I do see exreme sports, big physique, happy yet powerful image of individuals getting together after a break from an adventure. Or maybe an image of brooding men in a manly pose and looking everywhere else except the
camera lens and you can see an intensity of power in the image.

So when I saw this picture as one of their ads, I can’t help but comment with all the ‘Japanese otaku-ness’ in me and say… EH? *blink blink*
I can’t help but see too much eroticism in this. Not to mention ‘yaoi-ness’ (boy to boy relationship). Even if there is a girl, two men side by side in an obviously ‘threesome’ theme is not quite a picture I could associate with a powerful statement of underwear.
I’m sorry but it doesn’t follow up with their positioning statement.
