Google Penguin update has botched up all working possibilities for online search result prominence. Things are more confusing.

This is a random thought of what is happening to Google lately. I really need to get this thought out of my head.

All algorithm update is good as it empowers white hat SEO for future web develop and maintenance, in hopes search results will become truly relevant to what a user needs. No spam to deliver unwanted results, more valuable links to foresee, and no black SEO to quench honest online competition. These I understand but the process to “get on top results” has become more fogged up than ever. What I realize now is bit by bit, all the SEO and online content knowledge had again become theories… as it had been happening for years. I understand the way to reach SE result pedestal, in a sense, is to be “sociable” online. Right now, SEO has become quite vague… although, not too much to be ignored.

Anyone care to share their thoughts?

On my way to our office building’s toilet by the mezzanine, I noticed the clean wall at the corner… and wondered how I could put graffiti without alerting the building’s admin.

Nah… I can’t be a bad girl. :p

This reminded be of a notebook I would like to have in the future. Walls Notebook by Forlee, Sherwood.

Walls Notebook features 80 pages of blank-slate urban walls from around NYC. You can draw your graffiti on these walls as a playful way of enjoying street art other than just being the spectator.

So I was inspired by this blank wall by our building’s toilet. I took a picture of it, printed on sketch paper, then me and my sister doodled on it. I scanned the finished doodles and here they are.

Just because it's summer and you hate the heat, does not mean you can't feel cool and fashionable.

It’s summer and the heat from our side of the world kills. Stand under the sun. Even when not moving, you will sweat. It’s like the whole world became one giant sauna.

One of my everyday predicaments is to choose the right style to accentuate summer vibes but not add up to the heat element. I went online to find ideas on summer fashion and did I notice the trend of ‘flowing’ accents on cloths. Even with ‘fitting’ looking tops, there will be a slight area of “ruffle” or flowy part to give a more soft effect. Very comfortable and feminine looking.

What is it with designers developing the sense of sniffing out cute, illustrator-related, sketch, drawing or mere doodling, paper products. There are tons around and even when I am aware of the amount of trees falling down from forests to create these products, I absolute adore these and am drooling over some. These are definitely going to my wish list basket.

I almost screamed awhile ago.

I checked on my personal blog for almost 6 years and all my posts and pages were gone!

ALL of it. Each little tidbit of my life, interests, observations, evolution of everything about me, was gone in a blink of an eye. I was pretty sure I didn’t do anything with my blog’s theme, settings and database. I would not even touch the database for crying out loud. I’m scared of all back-end stuff.

So after sending an hurried message to site5 I made a quick research and found a quick solution to the predicament. *whew!*

For those having similar problem as mine, here was what I did to rectify the situation.

1. Login to Your Cpanel

When I got hold of my Kindle, I immediately put it into extreme reading mode after its first full initial charge. About three (3) hours per day, moderate font size, Wifi always on, and the darn thing lasted for a three (3) weeks before a “Battery Low” warning popped up. I was happy.

Then I left my Kindle home for my sister to use on her spare time. She said she uses for an hour or two in the afternoon each day. Before going to sleep, I would take an hour or two of reading out of routine. I imported more ebooks, turned Wifi on and off (depending on necessity) and continued reading… and it lasted for a week.

I was in mild rage. What happened? Am I having some unit dysfunction?

I continued to test importing more ebooks and this time, drained the battery to an extreme it turned off on its own and I wasn’t able to use it. Then, I gave it another full charge… and it still lasted only for a week.

I was near blind with rage.

I asked my Kindle retailer on support how to resolve this. He gave me a Kindle support link and I resolved to find answers by myself. Bit by bit, I found my answers on why this happened to my Kindle. Here are the facts:

1. Do not believe the advertised two month battery life. This relates for reading half an hour per day. Obviously, that doesn’t suffice to an avid reader.

2. Battery life relates to book stuck indexing. If a book is stuck it will tell you and this causes battery drain even you download a book.

3. When you copy a book onto the machine, it’ll go through and index every word or every book. Which is why some people, who load hundreds of eBooks onto their devices, find the battery level has dropped, what seems to be a disproportionate percentage, very quickly. In my case, my current book collection has not reached 50, but I have the complete set of Wheels of Time. If you’ve seen the actual paperback, which most volumes consists more of a thousand pages, I could deduce that set were a cause of my issue.

4. Listening to audio-books or using Text-to-speech feature drains battery life.

5. If you’re using a larger font or you read very fast, and read many hours a day, you have more page turns, thus use more battery. If you leave wi-fi on because of blog, magazines and newspaper downloads, those are factors too.

So if I’m going to summarize mine and my sister’s Kindle usage, my gadget has done a lot of page turns within a day, is active for an average of 3 hours per day, is indexing too many words (Wheels of Time, argh), my sister a “highlighter” addict… no wonder my Kindle only lasted a week recently.

The next step was to find ways to preserve longer battery life. Solutions are quire obvious.

1. If you don’t need Wifi, turn it off.

2. If you could live with only a few books at a time in your Kindle, do so. It will avoid “hang-ups” too,

3. Try not to use Kindle’s Text-to-Speech feature or for listening audiobooks unless absolutely necessary.

4. According to a discussion in Amazon, it’s best not to let the battery get too low before recharging. The recommendations seen are to recharge before the battery gets below 25% or so.

5. If your eyesight can stand reading smaller fonts, do so. It may aid in less page turns.

So that’s it! I followed some of these tips and found my battery life improving a bit.

If you need additional help on similar or other Kindle issues, please proceed to Amazon’s Kindle Touch Support page.

Happy reading!

I seek thy help to hear news on what happened to this publication.

As you may observe from the creases, this magazine has weathered a lot of folds, handling, page turns etc. This magazine was given for free from an anime convention in our area around 2002, I think. Yes, almost a decade ago. Imagine that. Amidst all the publications I purchased my whole life, this was the only magazine I thought of preserving as long as I can. It did enter my mind to cover with plastic but I felt it would demean the authenticity of the magazine, using non-glossy type of paper and deleting the smell of ink I grew to love when availing such a magazine.

For years, I kept an open eye to hopefully avail of another issue. The chance never came. Either distribution settled itself in its origin, in Singapore, or the production stopped altogether.

So what made me garner this publication like a shrine item?

It’s style was so unique, graphically stimulating yet informative, it lives well to its tagline, “Style in Print”. It caters well to the beginnings of “MTV-generation”, offering bits of fashion, music, games, and other avenues of creativity. I personally give it a description of “street punk” with classy style.

A fashion spread offering bits of unique accessories and miscellaneous items. During geocities days, when I started learning HTML on my own, I remember creating a page similar to the look and feel of this spread. I loved the ingenuity and flow of all elements despite cutting lines and edges.

A list of musical descriptions depicting albums never heard of. This page was an avenue for me to discover other music genres other than pop.

A spread featuring an artist from London.

If you look closely, these spread showcases food tidbits and recipe. The background features fashion. Two very different subjects but coincide well in this spread.

This area features a book. When you look at it, the background shapes had nothing to do with content. Yet, to someone like me, who wouldn’t care about the book (or author), I liked reading the article. The graphic helped with garnering interest.

A film review on “The Man in the White Suit”.

A unique simulation game of way past. It talked about playing God, taking care of unknown species within an aquarium. The goal was to make sure they were well fed, tickled and the water kept at constant temperature for their survival. A quirky part of the game is your pet species will eat each other for survival as they grow older. 0_0 We can say the game brings out your parental instincts… even for a brood with cannibalistic tendencies. *cough*

A pop art feature featuring food, *cough* boobs and naked women. It strongly insinuates there is nothing to be ashamed of talking about sensuality or sex since it is part of human necessity, in parallel to our need for food.

Till now, I’m still distressing over the fact I couldn’t avail of any back-issue of this publication. Have they gone online somewhere? Are they still in production? If they are, can I avail of Trigger in some way?

If anyone knows the answer, please tell me! This person will greatly appreciate your help! Save her sanity! XD
