The common workplace consists of several deparments. Each department focuses on specializations meant to isolate requirements to aid in a larger scale of production or service for a common or selected populace. This is the reason why school and college courses are made. Education institutions are made to provide knowledge and hone individual interests. The goal is for the individual to discover what makes him satisfied, what activity will best suit his needs and what passion will motivate him to excel in life.
Normally, there are two types of honed individuals. Those found in business or practical sector and those residing in the arts. Clear distinctions between the two are common knowledge. Expected knowledge and standards are set and members are required to deliver to their utmost abilities.
Every normal employee starts from the bottom of the ladder and works himself up. Building a path based on his chosen career will bring into light knowledge he seeks to attain the next step. It is, after all, the practical way to go and will not be a waste of time trying to figure out how to get the best rewards at the shortest amount of time.
Then suddenly you discover a man who knows too much from different fields. You wonder, is this man real? Is he taking some kind of drugs to keep him moving and thinking and achieving so many things at the same time? Think of the renaissance men. At this era, it will be rare to find such individuals but history tells they did exist and the possibility of them living with us now is not impossible. They are still human, with the same capabilities as we have, only a notch better at gathering knowledge and placing them into application.
So where are they now? Where are these renaissance men? Have they become extinct at this modern age wherein man is made conscious to excel in only one thing alone or else he might betray the weakness of versatility? If this is true, then man is born to imperfect his development and must not struggle with fate. He may have powerful urges to try a new instrument, to enter a different career, or play two to three instruments, but must disregard these to give way on making the most out of the fast paced modern life.
Just up to what is man capable of? Is the current fast-paced, with all its modern and technological innovations, actually constricting man to test his other abilities? Is working fast meeting deadlines make man focus too much on one activity he sacrifices his other passions or accomplish them at a later time? Is this a reason why many find themselves not unsatisfied, lonely or unaccomplished despite success they have accomplished in their later years?
