Bloom Box era
It seems a new invention has been sweeping the net these past few days. At first, I thought the ‘Bloom Box’ was some environmental-related invention (ergo, plants) to care for mother nature. Boy was I wrong.
Every light saver tips, water saving advises, electricity saver inventions have come and gone. This new invention though, poses to be a solution for the high level of energy problems for manking? Or is it?
A bloom box is a unique kind of fuel cell consisting of ceramic disks coated with different colored “inks”. These inks, they say, transform methane or other hydrocarbons and oxygen into power.
Some of Bloom Box’s current Clients are eBay, Google, Stables, FedEx and Walmark. eBay’s CEO, John Donahoe, is very satisfied with the results they have gotten from installing Bloom Boxes installed in eBay office. From 5 Bloom boxes installed nine months ago, eBay has saved $100,000 USD ever since.
Unfortunately, a Boom box is very expensive. To gain this energy light saver solution, corporations will have to shell out $700,000 to $800,000 for corporate-sized cells.
Bloom Box’s CEO, K.R. Sridhar hopes funding that is being given to him will help decrease cost down to below $3000 to make technology available for a household.
Do you think this Bloom Box is the answer to our energy light saver problems? Or our other energy problems? I sure hope so!
