New DVDs finished!
Just finished two new anime DVDs I bought over the weekend. :D
One is a bishie series titled, Princess Princess.
Princess Princess is a story revolving around the lives of three boys chosen to dress up as girls at the all-boy school they attend, which also just happens to be the most elite school in the area. The main protagonist, Tナ荒u Kouno, has just transferred to a new all-boys school, Fujimori, after living with his uncle for a time. He is one such boy chosen to be one of the “Hime” “or “Princess“, which is a bizarre tradition in order to break up the monotony of life surrounded by nothing but males. Students (based on certain qualifications) are selected to be Princesses and are made to dress up as girls (usually in Lolita fashion) and attend school functions like this.
At the beginning of the story, there are already two such Princesses, Yナォjirou Shihoudani and Mikoto Yutaka, known as the Western Princess and Eastern Princess respectively, due to their room location. Tナ荒u is convinced into becoming a Princess soon after entering the school though once he accepted the job, he found it to be much more enjoyable than he thought.
Princess Princess for me is a good comedy. Though its hilarious factor may not reach up the level of Fruits Basket, it provides a unique wit or its own, taking in the complexities of boys taking in the manly courage to dress up as girls.
One thing I noticed about this anime is its extraordinary use of colors. There were a lot of pastels and sometimes the hue can be too bright straining the eyes. But the surrounding atmosphere gives a certain lightness to the series. Though the bishie-ness of the characters could conjure up yaoi images, the lightness makes you accept the bizzarre “Princess” system.
This series particularly revolves around communication in the family, friends and lovers. Despite its 12-part series, the whole show does not seem to be fast-paced to me.
The other DVD I finished was the Samurai X OAV Tsuikohen. The one with Kenshin and Tomoe. I have seen it before but my VCD copy has scratches and keeps on skipping. When I saw the CLEAR DVD copy, I cried! It was so clear and I missed this movie so much!
Tsuikoken, one of the most acclaimed recognized anime movies of all times! I’m just so happy I got a good DVD copy of it. Wheeeee!
