Lessons on LifeThere was a man who had four sons. He wanted his sons to learn not to judge things too quickly. So he sent them each on a quest, in turn, to go and look at a pear tree that was a great distance away.

The first son went in the winter, the second in the spring, the third in summer, and the youngest son in the fall. When they had all gone and come back, he called them together to describe what they had seen. The first son said that the tree was ugly, bent, and twisted. The second son said no it was covered with green buds and full of promise. The third son disagreed; he said it was laden with blossoms that smelled so sweet and looked so beautiful, it was the most graceful thing he had ever seen. The last son disagreed with all of them; he said it was ripe and drooping with fruit, full of life and fulfillment.

The man then explained to his sons that they were all right, because they had each seen but only one season in the tree’s life. He told them that you cannot judge a tree, or a person, by only one season, and that the essence of who they are and the pleasure, joy, and love that come from that life can only be measured at the end, when all the seasons are up. If you give up when it’s winter, you will miss the promise of your spring, the beauty of your summer, fulfillment of your fall.

Moral: Don’t let the pain of one season destroy the joy of all the rest. Don’t judge life by one difficult season. Persevere through the difficult patches and better times are sure to come some time or later.

In the Garden

As the usual saying goes, “Nothing is easy in life.” To be a survivor, knowledge is desperately needed to support ourselves. And since the world leans heavily on the monetary factor, social, economic and political situations on our lives, constant PRESSURE is one thing that emphasizes NOTHING is FREE.

Well, I disagree. There are two major things, besides LOVE, that constitute FREE placements in human existence. That would be either being SAD or HAPPY. But that would depend on a person’s situation.

Some people are born to a contented life. They may be born rich, or well-loved, or brought up around positive vibes from people with positive outlooks.

Others are born under uncomfortable situations, some unloved, some plagued by heavy problems till they grow to adulthood. Depending on which life they were born to, it would call which FREEBIE is given to them.

Of course, life being unpredictable, we aren’t sure of the outcome of our moods. Some are cynical, positive or just have jaded outlooks (honestly, just like me ^^. But not too much). But we are also thought that the outcome of our future depends on our determination to believe and do what is right.

Being the imperfect humans that we are, this is an everyday challenge. Hearing constant news of marriages breaking up, students committing suicide from school pressure, or poor children taking drugs as substitute for food etc., it made me realize just how life hard is. But it also made me realize how MUCH EASY it is to be depressed in our socity.

People have to find that one thing, which will truly guide them in their lives. People have to be more open, have to learn how to truly see light in darkness, how depression does not make us weaker but stronger. Being sad makes us human and makes us see the distinction of being truly happy or plain satisfied.

Our positive outlook is the thing that would help us survive in this jaded world. It is our minds, which will guide our strength to survive. This is not for ourselves but also to guide our emotions to open our hearts to others. Probably this way, the theological concept of everyone being brothers and sisters would come into view.

I found this excerpt from the novel “Secret Garden” by Frances Hodgson Burnett”.

In each century since the beginning of the world wonderful things were discovered. In the last century more amazing things were found out that in any century before. In this new century hundred of things still more astounding will be brought up to light. At first people refuse to believe that a strange new thing can be done, then they begin to hope it can be done, they they see it can be done – then it is done and all the world wonders why it was not done centuries ago. One of the new things people began to find out in the last century was that thoughts – just mere thoughts – are as powerful as electric batteries, as good for one as sunlight is, or as bad for one as poison. To let a sad thought or a bad one get into your mind is as dangerous as letting a scarlet fever germ get into your body. If you let it stay there after it has got in you may never get over it as long as you live.

Maybe, if humans were more in tune with the way they think, if they are more aware of the power their mind has on their moods, on their physique, on their emotions… then humans may be able to concentrate more on what they could do in ANY predicaments that come their way. They could create more than dwell on their sadness.

But as I said, we are just human and are our flaws differ us from one another.

And then, this may just be me babbling since I happen to stumble on the book that’s why I did this entry while my sister is watching television beside me. My words are not as straigtforward as I planned it to be for the sounds from the televisino distracts me.

Yet, I felt I had to take this thought of my chest, thinking that maybe, in one way or another, my babblings or the exerpt above would able to reach some troubled mind. If you felt you would like to have someone to listen or read your burdens, don’t hesitate to contact me and I will try my best to listen. I cannot give perfect advise but I can lend my heart for you.

One thing that made me survive all these years of my frustrations and life burdens, was an image of a garden.

As long as I can remember, I want so much to have a garden or at least be in one. A really BIG garden. So many greens. So many flowers. A gentle breeze. Birds. Sunlight. I always think I’m in one and I would frolick like a little girl around this garden. One time, it would be an English Garden, with daffodils and tulips everywhere. Sometimes, I see a walkway with tall trees lining it and the sun shining through the leaves lighting my path.

My favorite is a Japanese garden. With small bridges, some orchides, a small pond, shrubs etc. If I felt like it, I would have a fox or dog beside me.

Find your place even it its just in your heart. It may be one thing that would make you survive.

Oh, I’m in the garden again… I desperately need to be in it!

Yesterday, I had this delightful lunch with one of my officemates when she offered me some of her salad lunch. It consisted of lettuce, tomatoes, carrots, beef (which I shared from my lunch), cheese, and ceasar dressing. It had been so long since since I tasted that salad! *wince*

Because of that, I am now urged to research other salad recipes. HAHA. Being the food lover that I am, I had to take down notes from a recipe book. ^^

6 cups cubed, cooked potatoes

1 unpeeled cucumber, cored, sliced
1 cup shredded carrots
1 tablespoon finely chopped celery
1 1/2 salt or to taste
1/2 teaspoon dill seed
1/2 cup dairy sour cream
Salad dressing

* Toss together potatoes, cucumber, 3/4 cup shredded carrots and celery.

* Mix seasonings with sour cream and dressing. Use enough dressing to moisten well.

* Lightly blend the dressing with vegetable mixture. Chill.

* Garnish with remaining carrots.

* Yield 8 to 10 servings.

Yum! I can’t wait eat salad again! ^^

Beauty in a Box – Facial Cleansers

Cleopatra had the right idea with her somewhat lavish milk baths. Milk is loaded with alpha – hydroxy acids (AHAs). These soften skin by exfoliating and dissolving the glue that holds dead skin together. These cleanse the skin’s topmost layer enabling our natural emollient oils to reach the surface cells thus moisturizing the skin. Blackheads are removed too!

AHAs are not only in milk but also in lemon juice, vinegar, blackberries, grapes, oranges, tomatoes, and apple juice.

Using lemon for example, you can try sqeezing a lemon a week & keep its juice in the refrigerator. In the morning, dab some lemon juice on your fingers and pat it onto the face, leave it on for ten minutes or so then rinse well.

NOTE: This Beauty in a Box tips are not made by me. They are borrowed from Papemelroti’s product sold in their stores.
